you know what i’m talking about moms…those days. where everyone in your family needs something every 2 seconds, and you seriously feel like you are running in circles trying to take care of things and before you know it its dinner time and your cup of coffee from breakfast is still sitting under the machine un touched? yup. those days.
how do you deal with them? do you lock yourself in the bathroom? fake sick? hide in the bed and hope for the best? no, we face them head on all the while the anxiety and chaos building up inside, or unfortunately sometimes outside and it wreaks havoc on all of our relationships.
i am a hyper sensitive person. if you don’t know what that means, i can get very easily agitated by senses, touch, sound, light, etc. and when something is off in one area, its very easy for me to quickly go from 0 to 60 on the scale of irritation or frustration, or worse set off my anxiety. the hardest part is being aware and feeling helpless to control it. but through lots of conscious choices, therapy and prayer, we have seen huge changes in my ability to respond and process when i’m under the gun.
now that i’m home with the kiddos, i’m so grateful that i’ve really been able to to focus on healing in this area, but the journey isn’t over..and it may never be. THOSE days still trigger me, and as much as I don’t want to, sometimes I just have to walk away, just for a second, pray and get my Jesus strength, and return to face the situation.
i’m thankful for online communities of women and moms and anxiety sufferers and the hypersensitive type that been open and vulnerable to share their stories. they’ve encouraged me even if they didn’t know it. there is a whole world, virtually and physically, of support and encouragement available to us mamas, so I thought i’d share a few of my favorites:
- wifessionals – kaitlyn is a first time mama who’s been writing here for quite some time. not only does she have some great posts about family life and wifehood, she’s been capturing some mama’s “tough subjects” covering the topics that are just not the most enjoyable to talk about. i highly recommend stopping by. this is also home to the cara box. an instagram community of women bonding via the social media platform and loving each other with awesome care boxes. sign ups for the next round start soon, and i can not wait to participate.
- thrive moms – this site is specifically for moms, but don’t let that deter you. it is full of all sorts of ways to connect with fellow mamas online and locally. you can follow them on instagram for daily inspiration, etc. they often have a daily devotional you can participate in as well via you version.
- val marie prayer journals – this is one of those ideas that just gets me excited. professional stationer val marie has brought her talents to creating these journals that encourage you to pray over specifics…every day there is a specific theme to pray over (politicians, friends, family). you can do a 6 month journey or 12 month. the even more inspiring part for me is there is an entire online community around them, #vmpjournals and a place to share prayer requests #vmprayer.
